2014 Castelli Body Paint Skinsuit to Feature Actual Body Paint?
By Sarah Esterman
We've heard some rumors that Castelli's 2014 line will include an interesting update to the already high-performance Body Paint Skinsuit: it might be composed of actual body paint.
According to an unnamed source who claims to have found top-secret documents, Castelli has discovered a space-age polymer that temporarily adheres to the skin. If what these documents say is true, this new technology could be groundbreaking: "A cyclist becomes much more aerodynamic and the cyclist's speed can increase by approximately 5% when the pigment of the suit is applied directly on top of the skin."
We gave Castelli a call to see if there's any truth to the rumors, but they would neither confirm nor deny.
The source has alleged that Garmin-Sharp will be testing this new technology first at the Giro d' Italia in May and later at the Tour de France. If this is the case, riders on the team should expect to shave 30 seconds off every 40k of time trials. "That's the difference between first and second in a race like the Giro," said a representative from Garmin-Sharp.
But whether or not we'll actually see Garmin team cyclists decked out in the new bibs depends heavily on the UCI.
"We are concerned that one team could get such an advantage," said an official release from the UCI. "We are not saying we will ban the new technology, but we are not saying we will not until we learn more. But we will probably ban it."
Domenic Andrea from the Viento Italiano Nebbia Corridore Instituzioni weighed in on the controversy. "If the reports are true," Andrea said, "then much like the Gabba short sleeve jersey in the Milan San Remo, we expect that a lot of other pro teams are going to be scrambling to get their hands on this exciting new technology."
Stay tuned to the BicyclingHub.com blog for more details. We'll update as we hear more.

Why Do You Love Your Bike?
Compiled by Sarah Esterman
It should come as no surprise, but we here at BicyclingHub.com love our bikes. They get us from A to B, whether that means commute rides between home and work, weekend rides for pleasure or training rides for races. They keep us in shape. They save us money we might otherwise have to spend on gas. They give us a wealth of great times. And, frankly, they hold sentimental value. My ride right now, for instance, was a college graduation gift from my parents, and I love it all the more because of that.
Yesterday, we went to our Facebook community and asked why you love your bikes. Here's what you said:
"I bought it with some inheritance from my grandma. She was the most incredible woman. Really like a second mom to me. Its my in remembrance of grandma bike and I ride it with pride. Also, my bike helped me lose 100lbs, and get to my first century ride!" –Ivy S.
"Riding releases stress... Every problem I have goes away. And when I am done, I can relax. Nothing else I do does that for me. I will ride until I can't anymore..." –Chris P.
"My bike will never leave me for another lover." –Enitan O.
"She quietly spends her free time in my garage, dreaming of the places we will go next!" –Jill L.
"I worked hard to buy it. I work hard to stay fit enough to compete. Even at close to 66 I have to fight for the time to suit up and ride. But then, on the road, I have a few hours of joy." –Tom M.
"My lovely white 'Marco Pierre' is an extension of myself and provides me with the balance I need in my life. We will journey together for as long as we can." –Audrey M.
"My good old Bridgestone mountain/road hybrid 'Little Blue' gets me wherever I need to go. She's the first thing I ever bought with a credit card (27 years ago!) and definitely the best bang-for-the-buck purchase I've ever made." –Cynthia H.
"For the wind in my hair and the smile on my face. It also stimulates the brain." –Shane B.

Dave Campbell's Race Trivia- Famous Italian Jerseys & The Men That Wore Them.
March 2013
With
the Majority of the World’s Elite riders
Taking
part in the Tirreno-Adriatico Italian Stage Race
This
month to prepare for the Classics
This
Months European Professional Cycling Trivia asks
"Famous
Italian Jerseys & The Men
That Wore
Them!”
Q1. Castelli has long supplied the
leader’s jersey to the Giro d’Italia. Due to the late
spring/early summer nature of this race, those jerseys were wool for
many years, well beyond in fact the point that the other Grand Tours
went to Synthetics. What year was the LAST year of the Maglia Rosa
in Lana? And more importantly, who was the last Race Leader to rock
the wool!
Q2. Who was the first American ever to
wear a Leader’s Jersey in the Tour of Italy? Warning: This is a
bit of a trick question due to the minor nature of the category he
led!
Q3. Luxembourger Andy Schleck famously
won the White Rookie Jersey in the 2008 Giro in his first ever Grand
Tour en route to second
overall. This marked the return of the Maglia Bianca after a
prolonged absence. Who was the last wearer of this prestigious
jersey and when?
Answers Below
A1. 1988 and of course, the man was
American Andy Hampsten of 7-Eleven. That wool jersey was very
practical with several stages raced in snow that epic year!
A2. Greg Saunders, of the Linea
MD-Gianna Motta Team who wore the BLACK JERSEY in 1984 for most of
the race as Last Man on GC. The Black Jersey was eliminated after
this year and in 1985, Davis Phinney of 7-Eleven became the first
American to wear a “major” Leader’s Jersey by donning the
Ciclamino (Purple Points) Jersey after Stage 4. Despite a string of
top 10 stage placings, Phinney’s lead was short-lived, only about
an hour in fact, and after a re-calculation the jersey went to Swiss
Urs Freuler. Nonetheless, Phinney wore it on the podium!
A3. Russian Evgeni Berzin back in
1994, when he also won the Overall.
